Foot in mouth

After typing in the following post I realized we almost became rabbit people. You see, about a year ago, we formally met the couple that lives behind us. We have 7 children. They were very kind and said they didn't have any children, but they were cat people. I just stared at them. No words came out. No words even floated in my head. Finally I smiled and someone walked over and broke up that awkward LONG moment. I still wave to them over the fence but I have to wonder...do they think that I think they are weird for being "cat people" rather than "child people"? Because I totally do NOT! But, and I am so sorry to all the cat people out there but I am not too fond of cats. I would never hurt one. My friends have them, my sister's family has one, we've taken care of people's (at their house) when they were out of town, we even fed one salmon at our doorstep (yeah yeah, it's all I had and she looked so pathetic like an indoor cat that accidentally got out).

But, I am allergic to cats (only if I touch them) and they seem to gravitate to ME! My sister's cat tends to stay out of sight when people are over. But in the past, if we laid our coats on a bed at her house...it would always curl up on mine, no matter which coat I wore. It's like it just knew. So, basically I guess I find cats a little too "smart/knowing" for my taste in pets, and if you really look them in the eyes it's like they know what you are thinking, I find it a little creepy. But, I would never tell this to the cat people behind us. I can't fit 2 feet in my mouth.

I commiserate on being allergic to cats. Even if I don't touch, I have problems. I once visited my deceased grandmother about 1 1/2 years AFTER the demise of her last cat. I thought I was safe. NOT! After about an hour, I said, "Grandma, I should leave. I think I am having cat problems." After 1 1/2 hours, I knew I had to leave. My voice was starting to sound husky.

Wow, now I am very thankful I have to actually touch the cat to have a reaction!

I am not so much of a cat person either but no allergies.
Good wisdom in this post. I had never considered what people might think that I think about them.
